Terms
Terms of service
Last updated 26 October 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Anomaly Africa, which runs The Family Record. By creating an account you agree to them and to our privacy policy.
1. Your account
You must give accurate details, keep your password safe, and be 18 or older (or have a parent's or guardian's permission). You are responsible for what happens under your account.
2. Family records and roles
- Owner: starts the family record, manages the plan and billing, and can delete the record.
- Curator: edits family content and manages invitations and members.
- Contributor: adds and edits people, stories and media.
- Viewer: can look but not change anything.
The owner is responsible for who they invite and what roles they give.
3. Your content
You and your family keep ownership of everything you add. You give us permission to store, process and display it to the members of your family record, only to provide the service. You must follow the upload rules.
4. Acceptable use
Don't use the service to break the law, harass anyone, upload content you have no right to, attack or overload the service, or try to access families you weren't invited to. We may suspend accounts that do.
5. Plans and payment
- Prices are shown in South African rand on the plans page and include any applicable taxes.
- Payments are processed by PayFast. Monthly and yearly plans renew automatically until cancelled. Lifetime is a once-off payment for the life of the service.
- You can cancel any time from Plan & billing. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
- Under the Consumer Protection Act you may cancel within 5 business days of your first payment for a full refund. Otherwise payments are not refunded for partial periods. Email info@anomalyafrica.com.
6. When a plan ends
We never delete your media because a plan ended. The record becomes a read-only archive: everything stays viewable, and new uploads pause until you renew or are within the free limits.
7. Backups and deletion
We work hard to keep your records safe, but no service is perfect. We recommend downloading a backup now and then. Deleting a family record is immediate and permanent.
8. Liability
The service is provided as it is. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act.
9. Changes and law
We may update these terms and will tell you in the app before important changes apply. These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa. Questions: info@anomalyafrica.com.
This document is written in plain language to explain how we work. It is not legal advice.
